Replace your oil or gas heating with climate-friendly heating now and get a subsidy of up to 75%!

Flattened plasticine ball with the text

With an unbeatable subsidy of up to 75%, we are declaring war on Austrian oil and gas heating systems. Put an end to your fossil-fuelled heating system once and for all and replace it with a state-of-the-art, climate-friendly alternative. Secure a subsidy of up to 75%!

On average, heating accounts for up to 70% of a household’s total energy consumption. That’s a considerable number – especially in monetary terms! So if you want to save money, it’s time to declare war on boilers for good. And switch to a state-of-the-art, climate-friendly heating system.

Why switch?

Now is the best time to switch to a climate-friendly or high-efficiency alternative heating system. This not only gives you sustainable heating, but also lower energy and operating costs in the long run.

The federal government is offering higher subsidies than ever, and state subsidies are also available.

The right heating system for your home

The variety of climate-friendly and efficient heating systems makes us unbeatable in our struggle against oil and gas boilers. There is a suitable solution for every home.

Energy consulting creates a solid foundation for making the right decision

The first step is to arrange an energy consultation for your detached or semi-detached home. For just a small fee or even free of charge, you can get advice on your new heating alternative and other possible energy-saving measures for your home: Energy consulting offices in the federal states

Heating systems at a glance

The klimaaktiv brochure “The right heating system for my home” is a decision-making aid that gives you an overview of the heating systems currently available on the market.

You can use the “No more oil and gas” calculator to find the best alternative to your oil or gas heating system in just three steps – individually tailored to your home and your preferences.

The heating calculator allows you to estimate the overall expenses over the entire service life of the new heating system.

The klimaaktiv heating matrix also shows you which heating system is recommended for your home. You can find the right heating system based on the specific heating requirement of your building.

Get cost estimates from installation companies

Have you gathered all the information you need and made a decision? Then now it’s time to get cost estimates from installation companies and compare prices. Our heating tips will tell you what to look out for when buying and installing a heating system.

The alternatives

There are many advantages to connecting to a climate-friendly or high-efficiency local/district heating network: a reliable, secure supply of heat, low or even no additional costs for service, maintenance and cleaning, space freed up in your boiler room, billing according to actual consumption and a definitive end to oil and gas boilers.

You can find more information about district heating here: klimaaktiv district heating

For reasons of efficiency, heat pumps are recommendable above all when combined with low-temperature heat output systems (such as underfloor, wall or ceiling heating systems or low-temperature radiators in thermally renovated buildings); a maximum flow temperature of 55 °C is therefore a prerequisite for receiving a subsidy. Air source heat pumps are particularly suitable for buildings with a low energy requirement, as they usually offer the best price-performance ratio. For buildings with a higher energy consumption, there are other heat pump designs that offer suitable advantages.

You can find more information on heat pumps here: klimaaktiv heat pumps.

You can find a list of eligible heat pumps here: List of heat pumps. Depending on the refrigerant used in the heat pump, the subsidy amount may be reduced by 20%.

Biomass heating systems (pellets, wood chips, logs) are the preferred choice for high heating flow temperatures and high energy consumption. However, the potential of biomass as a sustainable solution is limited. Therefore, to reduce heating costs and consumption levels, the building should be well-insulated before replacing the heating system. When planning and purchasing the heating system, it is important to determine the right size and output in order to keep costs low in the long term.

Step by step to your subsidy

This explanatory video shows you how to get your subsidy and which documents you need to apply.

  1. Registration – secure funding now
Register online with a ready-to-build project or if you have already replaced your old heating system. After completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email with your personal link to the online application platform. The funding budget will then be reserved for you.
  2. Final application
The funding application must be submitted no later than twelve months after registration. It can only be submitted online via your personal link. The necessary documents (invoices, final settlement form, registration form and energy consulting report / energy performance certificate / overall renovation concept) must also be uploaded via this link. Please note that the heating system must be fully installed and paid at this time.

Do you have all the documents ready? Then it’s time to start the registration process: Register now

2. Clean heating for everyone (in the lower-third income bracket)

Increased funding is available to households in the lower-third income bracket to ensure that they too can afford a new climate-friendly heating system (up to 100% of eligible investment costs, maximum amounts depending on the respective heating system). The “Clean heating for all” subsidy is organised in cooperation with the Austrian federal states.

Building owners receive support in the form of a subsidy covering up to 75% when replacing a fossil heating system with a climate-friendly or high-efficiency local or district heating connection and – if this is not possible – with a climate-friendly heat pump or biomass heating system. The maximum subsidy amount comprises the flat rate subsidy for the relevant heating system and various bonuses, e.g. for switching to a low-temperature heat distribution system, replacing a gas cooker with an electric cooker, installing an additional solar thermal system or creating an overall renovation concept. Support is also granted for replacing single-storey heating with a centralised heating system.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applications for funding can be submitted by building owners or authorised representatives (e.g. property management) of a multi-storey residential building with at least three residential units.

In the case of a climate-friendly central heating system, tenants and owners of individual flats can also apply for a subsidy to the extent that they bear the costs of the conversion.
